Will it drift? How often have you looked at
a car and wondered, will it go sideways? I am the sort of person that looks at a shopping
trolley and wonders whether it will drift around my local Tesco. I do not have a shopping
trolley with me here today, what I do have is not as much a people mover as a people
remover. It is this, the Binz hearse. So the question is, will it drift? If you’re going
to go out in style then it’s hard to imagine doing so in anything more appropriate than
a Binz. It’s based on a Mercedes E Class but has been modified in various ways to suit
its more horizontal audience. The wheelbase is considerably longer than normal, always
a useful feature for drifting the deceased, and as ever it’s rear wheel drive. The 3.0
L TDI engine produces just under 200 horsepower and the whole outfit weighs around two tonnes
depending on the diet of the departed. Either way, it should be able to spin up its rear
tires nicely without disturbing our all important cargo. Talking of which, don’t you worry
my friend I shall take very good care of you today, I promise. Now then, would you like
some light drifting towards the underworld or the full treatment? Whole nine yards you
say? Right then, buckle up. Let’s see that again in gratuitous slow motion. This may
seem a little twisted to observe but this thing is actually dead easy to drift. The
massive wheelbase means that everything happens really slowly and there’s actually enough
