Wheel balance is the first priority. This is a mix of three sports: basketball, netball, the wheel is important, and football. Keeping is an element from football. First when we practised it was definitely difficult but we tried it out and got used to it. Since we had an interest in it we gave it a shot. Our (coach) Victor Sir motivated us When we fell down he’d just tell us, You can do this, you only learn by falling first People aren’t born knowing how to eat rice, so you too need time to practice and learn – that’s how he’d motivate us. After practising for about one or two months we entered the National tournament and won third prize. When we went (to the tournament), there were less Tamil people Since we didn’t speak any Sinhala we were apprehensive, When we went there we weren’t accustomed to it, It was the first time we’d left the country and gone as Lankans to Bangladesh. So we were a little scared but we went and took it all in and learnt something. We didn’t practise as much as the other countries at all, We practised for two days in Mannar, And three days in Colombo – that was all we practised for the World Cup. Girls teams only came from four or five districts Actually from just nine districts – there is no participation from most districts. Now when it comes to boys, everything is easy for them. They can go out in the evening after 6 PM but girls aren’t allowed, even when it comes to attending 5 AM classes, we have to go with our parents. It isn’t like that for boys, they’re allowed to do things by themselves. In our team, Vilsha is the Keeper, She is a powerful thrower – everybody might try to come block her, but they’re scared she’ll strike with force, she does a good long throw. Thiviya shoots well and so does Thulaxny, Sobi does a good under-throw, Dilansika and Kajalvily are good players too, they’re really good at ball passing and balancing. Just as there’s an interest in rollball there should be in studies, we need to get good results in our studies and in the same way we want to reach the top with rollball. That is one of our aims in life. When it comes to our girls, even if it is the first day of someone’s period – they’ll still join the game, even today there was a girl in the team like that, she just took a panadol and joined us, saying she couldn’t afford to miss a game. The final stage of this is the World Cup, we’ve been to the World Cup and back, what’s next is the Olympics, We need to be selected from our district for the Olympics. That is our ambition.
