How To Use Both Hands Correctly In A Golf Swing

Hello. I’m Brian Fitzgerald The Golf Doctor. And today I’m going to show you how to properly
use your hands in a golf swing. If you are interested in this. Stay tuned. [MUSIC] So how do we use our hands in a golf swing? I think it is one of the most important parts
in a golf swing. And there are so many different ways of doing
it. I am going to show you an easy way of thinking
about it. So the hands actually work together in a golf
swing. They don’t oppose each other. But they do slightly different things. And the easiest way to explain it is when
we swing a golf club we want our left hand to work as if we are throwing a Frisbee. So the wrist is turning and it’s flexing. It’s not staying firm through the shot. It’s just relaxing. So for me to throw the Frisbee. Ah, if I turn side on here. You can see the action that I am using. That’s exactly what I want the left hand to
do when we throw that Frisbee. We want the left hand to break down. We don’t want it to be too firm for too long. So the left hand throws the Frisbee. What does the right hand do? The right hand hits a top spin. So if we are doing it for a right handed golfer. The right hand is hitting a top spin. So the hand releases, rolls slightly but it
doesn’t roll that way. We don’t want the racquet facing down. we’re turning the racquet so that the racquet
points behind me. So the right hand hits a topspin. The left hand throws the Frisbee. We put them both together and we have got
the correct use of the hands in the golf swing. It goes right hand is hitting the top spin
and the left hand is throwing the Frisbee. So if we can think about it that way. They are both important. But they both do slightly different things. Unfortunately most people are trying to let
their left hand do too much work and the left hand stays solid all the way through. We are trying to trap the ball. Trying to create lag. All these things but they do it for too long. And that left wrist stays too firm for too
long. That opens the clubface and sends the ball
down the right. So we actually want the golf club to turn
and the easiest way to make it turn is to let the left and right work together. So I hope you find that useful. Thank you for letting me help you with your

  • You're Brilliant! You got me at your leftie lesson! Absolutely brilliant every video! Thank you 😊

  • How much effort flows through to each hand during the downswing ? Would you say that the lead hand provides most of the effort, say 80 % and the trailing hand 20% …Hope this makes some sense…
